Interpal at the Islam Expo

Interpal Nakba Exhibition at Islam Expo 2008

A sponsor at this year’s Islam Expo, Interpal had a successful showing at the four day event. Islam Expo is dedicated to strengthening ties between the Muslim world and the West whilst enhancing the understanding of Islam in Britain. From 11-14 July, organisations, businesses and media partners joined at Olympia to celebrate Muslim culture. The many events included a series of lectures and debates, film screenings, evening concerts, an interactive Islamic history timeline, an Islamic calligraphy gallery and a fun zone for the children.

Interpal chose to dedicate its exhibition to the remembrance of the Nakba, the catastrophe of the Palestinian people in 1948. The exhibition, “60 Years of Suffering”, was presented as a large display using photographs and a fictional account based on historical events of the time. The art gallery walkthrough format will also be reproduced as a booklet, incorporating photographs from Islam Expo, which can be ordered free of charge from Interpal. The story is available for download .

Postcards to Palestine

The “Postcards to Palestine” initiative also proved to be very popular. Visitors to Islam Expo were invited to write a postcard to the children of Gaza, to be sent to orphanages working in partnership with Interpal. Adults and children alike were moved by the Nakba story and by their chance to send a message of support and solidarity to the Palestinian people.
