Joint appeal with NGO partners - update
Last month Interpal and Muslim Aid announced a joint appeal aiming to raise £5 million for Palestine. On 5 March, it was announced that £379,000 of direct aid plus US$1 million of medical support from this appeal has been delivered to the people of Gaza, thanks to generous public support.
As stated in a Muslim Aid press release, an initial package of £144,000 provided food parcels to feed 2,500 people and 2,000 gas lights, while a second instalment of funding delivered on 3 March of £235,000 has been distributed by local organisations to needy families, benefiting around 26,000 people. Meanwhile, the desperately needed medical supplies, which included antibiotics, pain relief drugs and water purifying tablets, were collected by the Arab Medical Union in Gaza for distribution to hospitals.
Boosted by this success, the appeal continues as crisis conditions persist. Two other British NGOs, Islamic Help and the Ummah Welfare Trust, have now joined forces with Interpal and Muslim Aid to strengthen the appeal.
