Orphans Challenge fundraising success

The Orphans Challenge (OC) is a student led initiative supported by Interpal to garner support for its Sponsorship Programme. It is manned entirely by full-time students keen to help children and students in Palestine, especially in the Gaza Strip.

OC volunteers were present at the Queen Mary Islamic Society (QM ISOC) annual dinner on 14 March to run information and fundraising stalls. Over £1,000 was raised through a bucket collection, but the greatest success of the evening was an onstage appeal to guests to support Interpal’s child sponsorship programme. It was hoped that 100 new child sponsors could be found from among the guests, but this target was smashed as more than 230 people came forward to sign up to the scheme! Their generous contributions will cover the basic needs of individual Palestinian children and will be worth £72,000 over the coming year.

This is followed by the success of a project in Bradford where students from one college raised over £860 by running a fundraising stall for ten minutes during break every day for four days.
