Meet Ahmed and Samia, from Lebanon!

Al Rashidiya is a Palestinian refugee
camp located on the south coast of Tyre, in southern Lebanon. It has been home
to around 18,000 exiled Palestinians and their families for six decades now. This
is where 6 year-old boy Ahmed and 7 year-old girl Samia live with their father
Wajih and their mother Ekram.

The family lives in a rented house in very bad condition. The
roof and the walls needs repair work done and the ventilation and the sewage systems
are in dire need of an upgrade. The family is also in desperate need of
necessities such as a fridge, an oven, and a heater. Wajih works as a worker at
a grocery market and gets paid 250$ per month, which is not enough to cover the
family’s basic needs.

Both Samia and her father suffer from epilepsy. They get
their medical treatment for free at a UNRWA clinic. Ahmad suffers from hypoxic
ischemic encephalopathy (a type of brain damage) and severe focal neurologic
deficit. His health situation is stable now but he needs to attend costly
therapy sessions.

Ahmed is illiterate and Samia is struggling in UNRWA school.
Both children should go to a school for children with special educational needs and disabilities, but
unfortunately the costs are very high and the family can’t afford it.

Ahmed and Samia deserve a brighter future; they deserve to
receive a good education and to get the medical treatment they need to be able
to live a decent life. Ahmad and Samia are now part of Interpal’s one-to-one
Sponsorship Programme. The monthly financial aid they receive from their
sponsor has already improved their living conditions. During Eid Al-Adha, both
children took part in fun activities organized by our Lebanon team. They also received
fresh meat and Eid clothes.
