Ramadan is a blessed month, where good deeds and worship bring great reward. It is a time of mercy, community and heightened spirituality. It is also a time for gratitude and an increase in giving to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

This year, millions of Palestinians will once again spend the month of Ramadan living under occupation, siege and crowded refugee camps, with little to no food, water and shelter. 60% of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank live on $2 a day or less, with over 80% of the population of Gaza having to rely on aid to meet their basic needs. Over 450,000 Palestinians are also trapped inside Syria amid the ongoing conflict-95% of whom are in need of humanitarian assistance.

We hope to reach over 15,000 families across the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria this Ramadan, but we simply cannot achieve this without your help.

This Ramadan, we will:

  • Feed the Fasting with food parcels and special iftars.
  • Provide Financial Aid to struggling families through our Zakat Distribution Programme
  • Protect the Right to Water by providing Water Aid to families
  • Provide essential Medical Aid to struggling patients
  • Direct your Zakat ul-Fitr, Fidya and Kaffarah to the most needy

 

Interpal takes no deductions from specified donations and ensures its Zakat distribution is Shariah compliant and adheres to donor wishes. For this reason we also encourage you to include a small donation for administration and delivery costs. All good deeds are multiplied in Ramadan and every donation helps to better the lives of the disadvantaged.

A guide to Zakat & Other Types of Donations

Zakat

Zakat is a pillar of Islam and its reward, along with all other good acts, is multiplied during the blessed month of Ramadan. You are eligible to pay Zakat if the amount of wealth that you have owned is more than the Nisaab (the amount of wealth a person must own in order for the payment of Zakat to become obligatory). In this case 2.5% must be given to charity in the form of Zakat.

Sadaqah

The word Sadaqah comes from the word Sidq which means sincerity. It is thus seen as a sign of sincerity of faith from the one who gives it. Sadaqah is a form of worship by giving money that has not been made obligatory. It has no limits or guidelines, rather it is whatever a person can afford.

Kaffarah

Kaffarah is the payment to be made if someone intentionally breaks or misses a fast without a valid reason. They must either fast continuously for 60 days or, if this is not possible, they must feed 60 poor people with two meals for one day. For UK residents, this would cost £300 per day.

Fidya

Anyone who cannot fast during Ramadan, and is unable to make up the lost days afterwards must compensate by feeding a poor person for each day of fasting missed. Fidya for one day is what you consider to be the average cost of two meals. For UK residents, this would be around £5 per person.

Zakat ul-Fitr

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made compulsory to every Muslim to pay their Zakat ul-Fitr prior to Eid prayer if they have the sufficient means to do so. The money is distributed amongst the needy so that they may enjoy Eid. This year the cost is £5 per person.
