The Land of the Prophets: Prophet Isa (pbuh)

Church of the Nativity

Verily, the likeness of ‘Iesa (Jesus) before Allah is the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then (He) said to him: “Be!” – and he was”. (Quran 3:59)

With most scholars citing Bethlehem, in today’s occupied West Bank, as the birth place of Prophet Isa (pbuh), he spent his life in Palestine, spreading the message of Allah (swt). Prophet Isa (pbuh) was bestowed with many miracles, being able to heal the sick and bring the dead back to life.

Most scholars believe that the Church of Nativity, in the occupied West Bank, was built over the birthplace of Prophet Isa (pbuh).  A stone block within the church marks the spot of the palm tree that his mother, Maryam (pbuh) shook in pain during labour.

The Mount of Olives in Al-Quds is said to be the site where Prophet Isa (pbuh) ascended to heaven.

Bethlehem has become the official home of Christmas celebrations in the Holy Land where Christians and Muslims alike join together for the lighting of the Christmas tree in Manger Square, outside the Church of the Nativity, and watch the celebratory parades through town.
