We said Never Again

In the spirit of Ramadan, a time of reflection, unity, and action, we stand together to echo a vow made by humanity: Never Again.

Never Again was a promise to prevent atrocities, uphold justice, and protect the innocent. Yet, as we witness the ongoing slaughter in Gaza, it’s clear that “Never Again” is happening again.

I hope this message finds you well. As your constituent, I am contacting you today with a matter of urgent humanitarian concern. I find it imperative to voice my deep concern over the ongoing genocide in Gaza, that continues to devastate lives and communities.

Despite global calls for peace and justice, we witness a stark inaction that allows these atrocities to persist. The principles of “Never Again,” pledged after historical horrors and enshrined in international law, seem to be fading in the face of current events. It is disheartening to see the international community, including our own nation, paralysed and silent on issues that demand immediate and decisive action.

As my representative, I urge you to take a stand in Parliament against this ongoing genocide. It is crucial that our nation plays a leading role in advocating for humanity, justice, and the enforcement of international laws designed to prevent such crimes against humanity.

What I ask of you:

  1. Public Advocacy: Use your voice and platform in Parliament to publicly condemn the genocide and call for an immediate permanent ceasefire and international intervention to stop these atrocities.
  2. Policy Action: Support and advocate for policies that promote peace, protect the vulnerable, and hold those responsible for the genocide accountable. Stop the arms export licenses granted to Israel and impose sanctions on Israeli officials who are responsible for the collective punishment of Gazans.
  3. Transparency: Keep your constituents informed about the steps you are taking to address this issue, including any parliamentary discussions or actions planned.

The world’s inaction on this matter not only undermines our moral obligations but also our commitments under international law. Silence and inaction are complicity. I, along with many others, am watching closely and expect our leaders to act with the urgency and seriousness this crisis demands.

Please let me know how you plan to address this issue in Parliament. I would also appreciate discussing this further with you at your next constituency surgery. Could you please inform me about the procedure for booking an appointment?

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I look forward to your prompt response and to seeing your actions reflect the concerns of your constituents.

"Never Again" is happening in Gaza, while the world watches...

In the spirit of Ramadan, a time of reflection, unity, and action, we stand together to echo a vow made by humanity: Never Again. A promise to prevent atrocities, uphold justice, and protect the innocent. Yet, as we witness the ongoing genocide, it’s clear that “Never Again” is happening again.

“Never Again” stands as a solemn vow against the recurrence of atrocities that once shook the foundations of humanity. It echoes our collective commitment to prevent war crimes, uphold human rights, and ensure justice and peace globally. Despite establishing the Geneva Convention and the United Nations to uphold these very principles, the world finds itself in a paradox where the cries for help are loud, yet the actions taken are paralyzed.

We said never again to the horrors occupiers bestowed on the occupied. We said never again to war crimes, we said never again to violence with impunity.

Yet today, the international community is paralysed watching the “Never Again” happen again.

Despite the world’s plea for humanity and the clear directives of international laws, the US continues to empower the occupier in its collective punishment of Palestinians, with the UK being complicit in this by “abstaining” at UN Security Council votes and by continuing to supply arms that are being used to attack Gaza.

As we break our fasts in the safety of our homes, let’s not forget those who are deprived of their basic human rights, suffering without end.

Your Voice Matters

As of writing, there are about 1.4 million Gazans sheltering in Rafah City – an area of just 25 sq miles. With Israel continually bombarding the city from the sky, and preparing for a massive ground offensive, the human cost of this attack on Gaza will grow exponentially.

This Ramadan, we invite you to transform your prayers into action.

Your voice can light up the darkness. It’s time to remind our political representatives that they work for us, and it’s their duty to represent our voices, our concerns, and our demands for justice.

This campaign is more than a call to action; it’s a call to uphold our shared humanity. Let this Ramadan be the turning point where we stand together, united in our demand for an end to the atrocities.

A History of Aggression

Palestinians have lived through Israel's attacks for over 75 years now. With numerous attacks every year, it is quite impossible to list all acts of aggression. But here are some recent major events.

Attacks on Al Aqsa & Jenin

2023

At Al Aqsa, Israeli forces attack worshippers; prevent others from praying; destroy the clinic inside the mosque compound; and turned the holy site into a warzone.

Violence in East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip

2021

Palestinians began protesting in Jerusalem after Israel’s Supreme Court ordered the removal of several families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah.  Israeli forces attacked hundreds of Palestinian worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque with rubber bullets and stun grenades as evening prayers took place during the holy month of Ramadan.

As tensions continued to rise across East Jerusalem, the Israeli military once again conducted airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip killing 242 Palestinians, including 66 children and 38 women, four of whom were pregnant. Over 1,900 Palestinians (including 610 children) were injured during the assault.

Since the protests began, the health sector in Gaza has been brought to the brink of collapse, with health facilities severely under-resourced and unable to cope with the massive influx of casualties.

What is Zakat?

Zakat is a pillar of Islam and its reward, along with all other good acts, is multiplied during the blessed month of Ramadan.

You are eligible to pay Zakat if the amount of wealth that you have earned is more than the Nisaab (the amount of wealth a person must earn in order for the payment of Zakat to become obligatory). In this case, 2.5% must be given to charity in the form of Zakat.

Use our Simple Zakat Calculator to work out your Zakat in minutes.

What is Fidya and how much is Fidya?

Anyone who cannot fast during Ramadan and is unable to make up the lost days afterwards must compensate by feeding a poor person for each day of fasting missed. Fidya for one day is what you consider to be the average cost of two meals. For UK residents, this would be around £5 per person.

What is Kaffarah?

Kaffarah is the payment to be made if someone intentionally breaks or misses a fast without a valid reason. They must either fast continuously for 60 days or, if this is not possible, they must feed 60 poor people with two meals for one day. For UK residents, this would cost £300 per day.

What is Zakat-ul-Fitr or Fitrana?

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made it compulsory for every Muslim to pay their Zakat ul-Fitr prior to Eid prayer if they have the means to do so. The money is distributed amongst the needy so that they too may enjoy Eid. The cost of this is £5 per person.
